Mr Mike Hayton
FRCS(Trauma and Orth) FFSEM (UK)
Consultant Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon

Mike is on the Specialist Register as an Orthopaedic Consultant, and his clinical practice consists exclusively of Hand, Wrist and Elbow surgery.

In addition, Mike is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Human Bone cell research group at the the University of Liverpool and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Salford.

Mike's adult NHS base is at Wrightington Hospital, whilst he consults privately at the Alexandra Hospital and Wrightington Hospital.

Over the last few years Mike has developed a special interest in sports medicine and is the hand surgeon to over 40 professional sports teams and national sporting bodies. Mike has recently been awarded the status of a Founding Fellow in the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine (FFSEM UK ) and is an examiner for the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine.

Mike is a keen teacher and regularly lectures in the UK, Europe and the USA.  He is lecturing at 3 conferences in the United States in 2010 - at the Mayo Clinic Wrist Conference, The Philadelphia Hand Conference and at the American Society of Surgery of the Hand.

Mike's research is regularly published in European and American Literature.

Mike's specialist training originated in Liverpool (4 years), a  Whiston Hospital Plastic Surgery Hand Fellowship (6months), a Wrightington Hospital Fellowship (2 years) and as a visiting Resident to the Mayo clinic in Rochester, USA (3months)

Mike is married with three children and hobbies are centered on sport and played rugby union at the highest National league, ultimately Captaining the English Universities Team. A serious neck injury brought  his contact sports career to a rapid halt, and now plays golf (badly) and is training for a triathlon (slowly).
